We’re excited to announce an all-new online workshop, coming Tuesday, October 13:
The Lowdown: 10 Things That Get Kidlit Manuscripts Rejected (and How to Avoid Them Forever).
The workshop will be led by Deborah Halverson, editor at Harcourt Children’s Books for ten years, and author of Writing Young Adult Fiction For Dummies, Writing New Adult Fiction, the teen novels Honk If You Hate Me and Big Mouth, the picture book Letters to Santa, and three books in the Remix series for struggling readers. Deborah is the founder of the popular writers’ advice website DearEditor.com.
In this comprehensive class you’ll learn:
* 10 Writing Sins that get kidlit manuscripts rejected
* Actionable steps and techniques you can employ to avoid these mistakes and/or correct them in your work
* What gets editors excited — and what turns them off
* How to write an effective three-paragraph query letter
This workshop is not about the obvious things (typos, sloppy presentation, etc.) It features the less obvious and higher-level writing, editing and revision techniques that only a top pro would know!
